PRACTICE & GAMES

Urbana Youth Cheer will start practicing for the fall season over the summer. Summer practice will be three times a week. Our practices will move to two days a week once school begins.

Our first game is usually the last weekend in August. Our game days and locations are determined by the Mountain Valley Youth Football League. Our closest game location is at Urbana High School, and they can go as far as South Hagerstown or Spring Mills, WV. A full list of locations can be found on the MVYFL website. Your coaches will have all game dates, times and locations uploaded into TeamSnap once the schedule has been released. Occasionally the league will make updates to the schedule due to weather related events. Your coaches will do their best to communicate this to you in a timely manner. They will also communicate game day information to you such as meeting/drop off spots, volunteer reminders, and game day attire.

All program athletes enter the games for free, but all spectators (including parents) must pay the field entrance fee. By paying and entering the field/stadium, you agree to the field/stadium terms for conduct and behavior. Entrance fees range by location but are typically cash only and $1 for individuals or $3 for families. During playoffs, the gate fees will increase by location.

---

Tentative Summer Practice (subject to change): August 6-8 and 13-15, 5:30PM. Coaches will have a parent meeting on season events and expectations after practice on one of the summer dates.

Fall Practice: Each squad will post their practice dates & times in TeamSnap.

EVENTS

Fittings

After registration, all athletes will be required to attend a fitting event. The items each athlete is fitted for varies each season as it depends on registration package offerings. For the 2024 season, returning athletes will be fitted for a cold weather set and shoes. New program athletes will be fitted for their game day uniform in addition to the aforementioned. On the day of the fitting, please bring your athlete in fitted attire, such as bike shorts and a tank top, with socks. You will be required to sign off on the fit sheet confirming you have checked that the sizing is correct and that you have taken into account any potential growth over the summer.

Summer Kick Off Party

Our annual summer kick off event is a fun way for the athletes to get to know each other prior to the start of the season! We will have a DJ, pizza, and music! All of this is funded by the prior year's end of season banquet raffle basket. You'll be asked to RSVP to this event so that we can plan for food accordingly.

Picture Day

Each year we team up with a highly rated photographer to capture beautiful photos of our program athletes. This is an optional offering but highly recommended. The program does not benefit from picture day; as such a fee to the photographer will be incurred if you choose to participate. If you choose not to have your athlete take individual photos, we still encourage you to bring them to picture day to participate in the team photo.

Youth Night

Youth Night is when the entire Urbana Rec Football, Cheer and Poms program walk onto the field for recognition before a high school game kickoff. Athletes get into the game for free and are invited to stay and watch. The Urbana Youth Cheer program athletes will have the wonderful opportunity to cheer on the sidelines with the high school cheerleaders. In pre-game festivities, the athletes will have a program sponsored pizza dinner with the high school cheerleaders before making a tunnel for the high school football players to run through. We will provide additional details and donation requests during the season.

8th Grade Recognition

8th grade recognition is when the program recognizes the athletes that are graduating out of the youth program. Many of our program athletes have been with the program for years so it is a way to recognize their dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship and contributions. Program athletes not in 8th grade will not participate in this event. Our varsity coaches will communicate with the families of 8th grade athletes during the season with additional details.

End of Season Banquet

Just as we try to kick off the season with a fun event, we close it out with an even more exciting event! The program athletes enjoy dinner, a dj, dancing, slide shows, awards, and most importantly the company of their teammates. They love to get dressed up and show off their moves, whether it's the boogie or an extension. While each program athlete's admission is paid for through the annual mums fundraiser, they must be accompanied by a paying adult. Details on ticketing, capacity limits, waitlisting and more will be shared during the season.

FUNDRAISING

Mums

Our annual mums fundraiser is our largest fundraising event! Each athlete is asked to sell at least 10 mums as the funds raised go towards our end of season banquet. The mums are a fantastic fall fundraiser as many of our neighbors, friends and families are annual supporters already, but also because they were looking to buy fall flowers to decorate their porch anyway! The mums are sold through the beginning of September and parents are asked to pick up and deliver their mums to their athlete's supporters. Unfortunately, the program/coaches cannot be responsible for direct delivery to buyers. Through this fundraiser, we are able to provide each athlete a ticket to the banquet. Additional details will be shared during the season.

Banquet Raffle Baskets

Families are asked to contribute items to a gift basket that will be raffled off during the end of season banquet. The coaches of each squad will come up with a theme for their basket. The funds raised from sales in raffle tickets will go towards the following season's summer kick off party. Additional details will be shared by your coaches during the season.

PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES

All parents/spectators are responsible for adhering to the terms and conditions set forth in the Code of Conduct in order for their child(ren)/athlete(s) to participate in the Urbana Rec Council Youth Football, Cheer and Poms program.
